InFurniture's 2006 Retail All-Stars
In honor of March Madness, a list of top power players in the home furnishings game
It's time once again for March Madness and InFurniture's annual ranking of the nation's all-star performers in furniture retailing. The list breaks down the individuals who are playing at the top of their game and, as a result, will be facing high expectations in 2006.
Fundamentals are the most important elements in the game, so the All-Star list focuses on the retailers whose main game is selling furniture. Teams that sell furniture alongside groceries, building supplies or clothing aren't on the roster. Points were awarded for sales, strong growth, innovation and dominance in home markets or sectors.
18. Jake Jabs, American Furniture Warehouse
Power Forward
Scouting Report:
Tireless at 75 years old, Jabs runs the floor much like a younger man and is as dominant on his home court, the Denver area, as any major player in the business.
2005 Highlights:
Acquired three Homestead House stores and is converting one to a super-sized store and warehouse.
2006 Outlook:
Adding a second large-scale store in addition to the former homestead house location near Westminster, Colo.
